The economic sector swallows 48.89% of the Plateau’s 2022 budget


Jan. 16 (THEWILL) – From UKANDI ODEY, Jos’ breakdown of the 2022 Plateau State Budget labeled ‘Inclusive Infrastructure Growth and Economic Recovery and Consolidation Budget’ indicated that the economic sector will swallow N17, 234, 272, 407. 68, representing 47.89% of the total budget.

Presenting a budget breakdown to Jos last Friday, Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Sylvester Wallangko, said other sector allocations show that the administrative sector is second with an allocation of N8,440,542,337.82 , equivalent to 23.45 percent of the budget, while the social sector and law and justice received 24.41 and 4.24 percent respectively for the same fiscal period 2022.

Explaining the huge allocation to the economic sector, Wallangko said the projects captured for execution in this area were split between education, agriculture, works, health, water resources, energy and sanitation. , land and housing, and science and technology. Others include tourism, information and communication, women’s, youth and sports development, trade and industry, and environment and solid minerals development.

With a zero opening balance, Wallangko added, “The budget vision aims to consolidate the achievements of the ‘Relief Administration’ to improve our management towards accelerated socio-political and economic development of the state.” .

He urged all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to strictly adhere to the basic principles of budgeting and budget execution, just as he called on stakeholders to “assume responsibility and ownership of all projects that are in their field in terms of maintenance culture as the first beneficiaries”.
