Department of Statistics: 97.8% of positions occupied in the Malaysian economic sector in the third quarter of 2022

KUALA LUMPUR, November 9 – A total of 97.8 percent of the 8.68 million positions in the economic sector were filled in the third quarter of this year, according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM).

Based on employment statistics published by the DOSM, of the 8.48 million vacancies filled, 4.5 million vacancies were in the service sector.

“Meanwhile, no less than 2.39 million jobs are in the manufacturing sector, more than 1.2 million jobs are in the construction sector, the agricultural sector (470,000) and mining and quarrying (78 000)”, according to statistics.

The DOSM also informed that 62.3% of the positions filled are for the semi-skilled category, 24.9% for the qualified category while the rest is for low-skilled workers.

According to current statistics, there are 191,300 vacancies covering all sectors.

He also said that no less than 30,500 positions have been created for the new service program, the promotion of existing employees and the increase in the number of positions from the existing structure. — Bernama
